Inspired by Genzo IHARA (DrunkDog) Snake-Eye (you can see it in Dr_Tak Wonder Festival summer 2009 Report, too) but can't wait the Ma.K Profile #02 magazine with appropriate decals hits the shelves, so I started works using kit decals plus some from a Raptor suit and Red "9" with Black border from an old Nitto Kauz.
I substituded stock PVC power cables on legs and laser arm with metal coil springs and retooled the scopes on arm and back. Apart from this, it is a simple "Out-Of-The-Box" model.
My personal feeling about new Wave Snake-Eye is a bit confused:
it isn't so immediate to build due the multi part torso.. that can't split open out of the box because lacks in all inner detail and the cockpit hatch requires some care to be fit closed; the "valve" on the back isn't called in instructions, no heel cables and absolutely vague decals.
I still have to get myself used to slim legs but... I love it!
First of all it is Ma.K, then I appreciate the nice hand and clean, slide moulding casted engine bells and.. it should be widely available!
This is the first time I try a completely brushed camo, first time I try a space model and first time I try red color with greys and a satin top coat from a rattle can on a model.. I was lucky to obtain a decent result!
I started from a dark base color, I choose Tamiya Nato Black (in space you shouldn't have brown in your weathering but some black to represent the harsh contrast of an environment without atmosphere.. I think..)
Working with brush I can leave some shadows around details: you are painting layer over layer of semi transparent color.
In the end I used Cassel Earth oil color directly over the gloss finish, that covers the decals, to reinforce some shadows and in seams. Working with oils on a gloss finish requires some care but can give a nice smooth gradient from light to shadow. The matt spray can gives the final satin finish.
